If there is an OEM cruise control installed, a device is required to prevent overspeeding when active.
The setup module is required to complete an installation, only one is required for multiple installations.
Required In order to change the set speed limit - advised for installation
We can set this for you or it can be done via the programming lead. If the vehicle includes an OEM cruise control we advise having the programming lead.

Description

Vehicle Specific Speed Limiter for Alfa Romeo 147 <2000

General installation process

The installation process for the speed limiter system involves accessing the area under the dashboard and the steering column by removing the knee trim. In some cases, additional access may be required, such as the passenger side knee trim or the back of the radio. Soldered joints should be used for all connections. The brake connections are typically located at the top of the brake pedal, but on some vehicles, the location for connection may be found along the loom and away from the switch or the switch may be on an actuator arm away from the pedal. The positive feed can be accessed from various locations in the vehicle, we often use the main feed for the ignition key, although other options could be around the fuse box or on the OBD connector. Locating the vehicle speed pulse can be challenging, and we provide the location of this connection in the order according to the latest information in our vehicle database. The earth connection is not required, as it uses the earth connection through the throttle pedal. Unplug the throttle pedal connector and place the T-harness inline; connect the other end to the limiter computer.

The setup procedure is straightforward, requiring the temporary connection of the setup module, and takes approximately 20 minutes for road test. It includes the following steps: Static (while the vehicle is stationary), Pedal setup (to allow the limiter to learn the throttle pedal signals), and Diagnostic (to check the brake and speed pulse connections. Speed pulse is monitored when the vehicle is driven in diagnostic mode). In summary, the installation process for the speed limiter system requires accessing the under-dash and steering column areas, locating various connections, and following the step-by-step instructions provided.

Will the aftermarket speed limiter affect my vehicle warranty?

No. Conrad Anderson supplies and installs speed limiters for most of the main dealerships in the UK, covering the vast majority of vehicle manufacturers. We recommend that the installation is completed by an auto electrician just to put the installation beyond question. Any issue believed to be linked to the speed limiter installation can be proved one way or the other by removing the fuse from the main cruise computer wiring loom and removing the T-Harness from the pedal.

Tools required for installation

  • Soldering iron & Solder
  • Multimeters
  • Side cutters
  • Wire strippers
  • Specialist torx and other bits usually required to remove vehicle trim.
  • Knife
  • General screwdrivers and spanners
  • Work lamp

Skills required

Installing a speed limiter is very similar to installing a vehicle alarm system. See the general installation process above for an idea of what is involved – the main requirements are:

  • Remove & Refit vehicle trim
  • Soldering electrical joints
  • Basic 12v electrics – Using voltage meters to locate 12v switching wires
  • Routing cables away from moving parts

Vehicle Changeover year

Vehicles manufactured or registered around a changeover year will need to be looked at in detail to make sure the correct version of the speed limiter is selected. If your vehicle is 2007 and listed in our website product description as 2007-2011, there could be a difference in the specification – this could be down to the following possibilities:

  • A 2007 registered vehicle could be a 2006 (or earlier) build year.
  • Vehicle manufacturers sometimes use ‘hybrid’ throttle pedal solutions between model changes, the vehicle may look the same but have different throttle pedal connections.

To check which speed limiter is correct, look at the throttle pedal connection on the vehicle and compare it with the T-Harness connections on the product photo above.
