An ear
for the future – in-car MP3 sound from VDO Dayton’s new top of the range CD
4802 (from 26th April 2002) As
ever, VDO Dayton has its finger firmly on the pulse and is one of the first companies
on the market to offer a CD Tuner combination featuring an integrated MP3 player.
This means that tracks which have been downloaded from the Internet and burned
onto a compact disc can now be played in the car. As well as a smart chrome trim
and a brilliant 3D-Effect VFD Display, VDO Dayton’s new top model CD 4802 boasts
a multitude of intelligent features. This transforms the humble car radio into
a complete infotainment unit. VDO
Dayton’s CD 4802 brings the sound of the future into the car. Younger audio customers
in particular already think of MP3 as the standard format for recorded music.
This is mainly due to the high data compression rate, which enables individual
tracks or entire albums to be downloaded from the Internet or sent by e-mail relatively
swiftly with no loss of sound quality. It also opens up new possibilities on the
data storage front. By using the Fraunhofer Society’s technology of compressing
music tracks far more songs will fit on one data carrier. With
the CD 4802 VDO Dayton deliberately chose CD ROM as the storage medium. As well
as being the most popular and by far the cheapest sound carrier, it also has the
biggest capacity. For example, one disc in MP3 format can take up to 150 songs
or around ten conventional audio CDs. That means you could drive from Frankfurt
to Paris and back without listening to the same song twice or changing the CD.
The CD 4802 plays all standard CD ROMs, including CD rewritables. And for customers
who don’t yet have their entire music collection in MP3 format, VDO Dayton’s flagship
unit will play conventional audio CDs too. But
it’s not only the MP3 Player, the unique design and perfect sound performance
that make the CD 4802 such an attractive hightech package. The specification of
the new flagship is impressive, including features usually reserved for luxury
class vehicles, such as park distance control (available as an optional extra)
and a highperformance onboard computer which displays average speed, battery voltage,
outside temperature and journey time. To
guarantee perfect sound quality the CD Tuner offers a fully digital processing,
from the data source – CD, MP3 or DAB signal (DAB control for optional DAB box)
– to the 4-channel preamp out. The intelligent auto equalizer, the well-designed
digital sound processors and the amplifier, which features pioneering MOSFET technology
with a maximum output of 4 x 55 watts, packs a more than adequate power. |
