Reach your destination
still more rapidly – VDO Dayton presents new operating software for its monochrome
navigation systems (1st June 2002)
The VDO Dayton MS 3100, MS 4100 and MS 4200 navigation systems kick off with noticeably
faster routing, a user interface that has been further optimised and an expanded
range of information. All
these features have been made possible by new operating software which turns the
systems into the fastest route planners on the market. With the new update the
navigation systems will come up with the first route instruction immediately after
the last entry for the destination address has been made. Customers also benefit
from a performance improvement in detour and deviate planning when avoiding traffic
jams and driving alternative routes. In addition, the voice instructions in the
MS 4100 and MS 4200 were yet again made more precise. In future for some countries
the spoken road numbers will be specified at motorway junctions, for example.
Furthermore, there is an optimised user interface with a number of icons to directly
call up individual functions and a self-explanatory, intuitive logic. Thus the
entry of a destination is not only made easier, but access to the so-called POIs,
ranging in 40 categories from petrol stations via car parks to hotels, is also
simplified. In addition, destinations outside the area of the digitalised map
with the new software can also be directly targeted by entering their coordinates.
So the tracking vehicle of a hot air balloon, for example, can find the balloon
it is following more quickly. A
whole series of additional information is also new: thus the navigation systems
will in future show the current height above sea level and a compass rose indicating
where north lies; traffic jams along the route are announced with new pictograms
and explained in detail in a second information field; and entertainment during
a motorway stop is provided by three integrated computer games.
In addition to the optimised navigation applications, the new software provides
further advantages: thus it is now possible to supplement the MS 3100 with the
MG 2150 hands-free device as an optional extra. Here the monitor and remote control
are used both for navigation and for safe telephoning in the car. Furthermore,
with the optional TMC receiver MT 5010 the driver is now able to display the TMC
provider list and choose the preferred station. The new RDS memo dynamic function
in the MS 4100 and MS 4200 ensures that the alphabetical list of all RDS radio
stations in the reception area is stored permanently and kept up to date. |
