VDO Dayton MM 5600: New slide out display VDO Dayton is now expanding
the range of monitors for its navigation, TV and DVD systems, with the first semi-automatic
sliding monitor for DIN trays, allowing navigation at the touch of a button. The
MM 5600 6.5-inch colour monitor only makes its elegant appearance from the central
console when it is actually needed in order to display information on its screen.
When the navigation system or entertainment system is switched off, the monitor
remains quietly and unassumingly hidden in the dashboard. With
this new sliding-screen technology, VDO Dayton now offers solutions for full-featured
in-vehicle navigation and infotainment systems that are as much about saving space
as elegance. For the first time, it is now possible to mount a large widescreen
colour display in the 1-DIN tray, fully integrating it into the cockpit. No other
mounting points, frames on the dashboard, ball feet or swan-necks are needed.
Just press the button, and an electronic motor releases the non-reflective TFT
screen from its hideaway in just two seconds. It can then be positioned manually
by the driver, and retracts just as quickly back into its housing. Drivers can
set the angle of the monitor as they wish, so that they can always be sure of
the best possible view of the screen. The semi-automatic monitor also offers the
advantage of being more stable than fully automatic models. The
underlying technology of the MM 5600 is based on the renowned, proven monitors
from VDO Dayton. This takes care of the automatic brightness control, and the
self-explanatory OSD menu. An integrated IR receiver for the navigation-system
remote control, and the built-in speaker that allows traffic announcements and
travel directions to be given irrespective of the background music are also both
part of the new sliding screen. The
MM 5600 can be installed in all vehicles that have a second 1-DIN tray. These
include many Volkswagen models, such as the Golf, Bora and Polo, as well as vehicles
manufactured by Skoda and the A and M class cars from DaimlerChrysler. The
MM 5600 will be available from mid-April and is attractively priced; only £100
more than the standard 5.8 systems. |
