REVERSING CAMERA SYSTEMS FAQs

Will I be able to fit them myself?

Yes, provided that you are a reasonably confident and capable DIYer.

Will I have enough cable in the kit to fit the camera on my motorhome?

Yes. Some models come with up to fifteen metres of cable.

How will I get all the cables through the cupboards?

Please phone us for details using the number below.

Will I be able to see a mirror image in my monitor?

You can see a mirror image or a standard view.

Should I buy a black & white or colour monitor?

Colour monitors help to instantly recognise the view because the brain takes less time to process the information. Black & white monitors have better contrast so are particularly useful for night-time manoeuvres.

Why do I need a heated lens?

A heated lens is useful in cold conditions to clear any condensation. The RV100, RV300, RV650 and RV700 systems all have camera's with heated lenses.

Will I be able to put a video or TV picture through my system?

As long as the monitor has an input socket for video/audio (PAL) it is possible to connect a video or TV picture. The RV650 and RV700 systems have monitor's with an input socket.

Will I have problems with water ingress at the camera mounting point?

We use non-drying sealants and grommets to ensure a water tight fit.

What is an auto iris/Electronic Iris (EI) for?
The function of the electronic iris is comparable to that of the electromagnetic iris in a camera lens. It adjusts the signal coming from a picture sensor and prevents overexposure. The higher the test-frequency for the picture signal, the more light-stable is the camera (e.g. 1/50 - 1/100.000 seconds). This is absolutely necessary for all commercial vehicles and recommended for mobile homes. The electronic iris ensures that light or shadows do not negatively effect the quality of the picture.

In systems without iris control, significant problems wilI arise under the following conditions:

  • light reflections from light-coloured road toppings or snow covering
  • the sun in low positions
  • glaring caused by headlights from behind

REVERSING SENSORS FAQs

Will I be able to fit them myself?

Yes, provided that you are a reasonably confident and capable DIYer.

I've got a bike rack; will it effect the sensors?

If you have a system with sensors mounted into the bumper it could be a problem. We recommend: The sub-mounted MW-650-4DSM, flush mounted system MWE-650-4DSM or MWE-850-4DSM. The Distance Signal Memory (DSM) eliminates background objects from the sensor zone, like your bike rack. The MWE-850-RV is also a very good option.

My vehicle has a molded bumper; how will the sensors fit in it?

Call us for an answer.

I've got a tow-hitch; which one is best for my needs?

Again, the MW650-4DSM, MWE650-4DSM or MWE850-4DSM would be suitable as the Distance Signal Memory (DSM) eliminates background objects from the sensor zone.

I don't want to drill large holes in my bumper; what are the alternatives?

Sub-mounted sensor system MW650-4DSM.

I have a Land Rover vehicle and some 4x4's. I would like an ultrasonic reversing aid. I particularily like the "distance readout display" facility on the MW600-3 and as far as we can see the MW800/4 does not have this. Is there a system which gives a distance readout in metres and has in-bumper mounted sensors?

If you are fitting onto an off-road vehicle there is a possibility that the sub-mounted sensors can be dislodged. We have available the MW800/4 which fits inside the bumper rather than underneath. The MW800/4 has a mini display with 4 LED's on it, each one representing a different sensor. These light up in a traffic light style, so green is safe, amber means something is very close and red is stop immediately. As you get closer the bleeps increase in frequency. However, it does not tell you how far away you are on a digital display as the MW600-3 does, nor does it have the range. The MW600-3's range is up to 5 metres away for large objects, whereas the MW800/4 does not activate audibly until you are approximately 1.3 metres from the object. Your best option is probably just to buy a kit and possibly provide some extra protection around the bracketry area without obscuring the "view" of the sensors.

The MW600-3 has been updated and replaced by the MW650-4DSM and the MWE650-4DSM. It is now possible to have a flush mounted reversing radar with a display giving LED distance markers and a numerical readout. July 2004

I am interested in purchasing one of your reversing radar kits but have a couple of questions. 1. What is the difference between the flush mount and sub mount sensors? 2. Can all the sensors be painted without affecting the performance?

The flush mounted sensors fit inside your bumper, which means drilling a hole in the bumper and then clicking the sensors into position. The sub mounted ones go underneath and are held in place with brackets (supplied). The Parking Partner has wide angle sensors and thus only requires two sensors. You can colour match the sensors, providing you use an acrylic "touch up" type paint - as this is a non-aggressive paint which will not cause corrosion.
