A SIMPLE GUIDE TO BUYING A
PROFESSIONAL
RANGE CRUISE CONTROL

A 'Professional Range' cruise control kit is made up of the following components:

1. Base unit: actuator and computer.
2. Command module: for example, a stalk mounted on the steering column.
3. Mounting kit.

What do I need to make up an aftermarket cruise control kit?

1. Choose an actuator: AP300, AP550 or an AP800.
(this includes a computer or an interface according to the kit and a
mounting kit).

Choose an actuator: a pictorial guide.
AP300

AP300

Vacuum actuator: Ideal for vast majority of vehicles, petrol or diesel. Smaller body easy to mount in engine bay. Best value for money out of the range.

AP550

AP550

Electric actuator: Modified AP500 with 4 stroke lengths and variable cable length. Universal kit for easier fitting in awkward spaces.

AP800 Electonic Actuator

AP800

Electronic Actuator. Cruise control especially designed for ‘Drive by Wire’ vehicles. This unit requires a command module plus a vehicle specific, plug-in, pedal interface -
T-Harness’. Saves time on fitting, no moving/wearing parts.

ECU

ECU

This is the brain of the cruise control kit. It comes as standard as part of every kit.

2. Choose a command module: CM7, CM19L or CM19R, CMGK, CMIR or CM25 or 'Original Equipment' stalk. We stock only a Peugeot/Citroën stalk at present. More will be available soon.

Choose a command module: a pictorial guide.
CM7

CM7 Dash mounted command module.

Dash mounted command module, back lit with cruise indication. Contoured buttons.
Dimensions (WxHxD): 55x35x10mm.

CM19

CM19L or CM19R

CM19 left or right handed stalk module. Stalk mounted command module on an adjustable ball joint. Functions: Fix speed and increase, memory and decrease, on/off.
Dimensions (WxHxD): 150x20x20mm.

CMGK

CMGK

Gear Knob command module, this replaces the end of the gear stick. Interchangeable facias available free with kit. Carbon Fibre, Matt Black or Wood finishes.

CMIR

CMIR

CMIR Infra-red command module, straps onto steering wheel in any position.
Dimensions (WxHxD): 55x35x10mm.

CM25

CM25

We have newly restructured our cruise section to accommodate new products. We apologise for any confusion or misunderstanding this might involve. Instead of having kits we have split them into individual products so that you the customer can pick and choose your kit depending on your vehicle.

PROFESSIONAL RANGE CRUISE CONTROL KITS

Within this range, we have a choice of 4 base units combined with a selection of 7 command modules. All the base units have a built in SETUP/LEARN mode that allows the user to adjust the major cruise parameters to optimise operation for that individual vehicle (Pulses / mile, reaction speed {x 40} and gain {x 40}). For a complete kit you will require an appropriate base unit (which includes the actuator, wiring loom and fitting kit) and a suitable command module (control unit). The latest actuator also requires a ‘T Harness’ telephone 0800 279 0085 for further details) . The electronic cruise units have a built-in diagnostic function enabling the installer to easily detect and solve problems without any special equipment or lengthy faultfinding.

The choice of base unit depends on the vehicle that it's being fitted on. All the base units are made to a very high standard having waterproof AMP connections for under bonnet situations.

AP300 Vacuum actuator: Ideal for vast majority of vehicles, petrol or diesel. Smaller body easy to mount in engine bay. Best value for money.

AP500 Electric actuator: NOW SUPERCEDED BY THE AP550. Any vehicle, great for vehicles with limited pedal travel on electric throttles or HGV's with no vacuum supply.

AP550 Electric actuator: Modified AP500 with 4 stroke lengths and variable cable length. Universal kit for easier fitting in awkward spaces.

AP800 Electronic actuator: Especially designed for ‘Drive by Wire’ vehicles. This unit requires a command module plus a plug-in pedal interface ‘T Harness’ which is vehicle specific. Saves time on fitting, no moving/wearing parts.

This range has a choice of either vacuum or electric actuator (servo) to cater for any vehicle. The system has a robust very sophisticated electronic control unit. This accepts speed sensing from a variety of sources such as the ignition coil, ‘W’ connection on the alternator, speedo or tacho drive, engine management unit or the drive shaft (front or rear wheel drive). It has full independent adjustment of both gain and initialisation rate settings. It also has a full built in self diagnostic mode to enable the installer to check out the fitting prior to road testing.

There are a variety of command modules available ranging from a dashboard or central console mounted CM7, the deluxe stalk mounted CM25 and the CM19 (LH or RH fitting), gear stick mounted CMGK or the steering wheel mounted infra-red controlled CMIR.

All of these have the possibility of adding a multiple memory unit to hold three preselectable speeds using the CM8. The Eagle Mechanical unit is a throttle-locking device with a brake safety ‘off’ switch. This allows you to take your foot off the throttle and relax for a very economic price. Ideal if you are on a tight budget. It has no speed feedback so there is a bit more adjustment required than on an electronic cruise control.
